How does the calculator compute the recommended speed?
It adds up the household’s peak concurrent use based on known demands: a 4K stream roughly 25 Mbps, an HD stream 8, a video call 5, gaming 10, a household member browsing 5. It adds 25 % headroom for updates and smart home and rounds the result up to the nearest commonly sold plan.
What should I enter for streams and calls?
The counts during your strongest evening peak, i.e. how much runs at the same time, not how many devices you own. If two TVs never run simultaneously, count one. It is the concurrency at a single moment that determines the speed you need.
Why does the calculator recommend an upload figure too?
Because video calls, home cameras, backups and sending large files go the other way, and asymmetric connections often offer only a fraction as upload. Weak upload is the most common reason for stuttering calls even with a fast download, so check it just as carefully when ordering.
The result is higher than my provider offers. What now?
Try reducing concurrency: two simultaneous 4K streams are the biggest consumer and can often be spread over time or switched to HD. If that is not an option, consider another provider or technology; fibre usually offers higher speeds and upload than DSL and LTE.
I have the recommended speed but the internet still stutters. Why?
The bottleneck is most often the home WiFi, not the plan. Measure the speed over a cable at the router and then over WiFi at the problem spot; if the cable numbers match, fix the coverage (router placement, mesh), not the plan.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent or stored anywhere.
