A camera system is one of the most common things people ask us about, and it almost always starts the same way: “and how much will it cost?”. The exact price always comes from a site survey, but we will give you a ballpark right away. We will show what drives the price, the real ranges for a home and a business, and where it does not pay to save.

What the price depends on

A camera system is not a single product with a fixed price tag. The price is driven mainly by:

  • The number of cameras. A typical home is covered by 2 to 4 cameras, a larger property or a business by 6 to 16.
  • Resolution and quality. The difference between a 2 and an 8 megapixel camera, night-vision quality and the lens decide whether you can recognize a face and a plate at night.
  • Power and cabling. Classic cameras powered over the network cable (PoE) need wiring run; solar and wireless ones mount without wiring, but at a premium.
  • Recording length. The more days you want to keep, the larger the storage.
  • Installation difficulty. Height, wall material, cable length, possibly scaffolding.

How many cameras you really need

  • Family home: usually 2 to 4 cameras are enough, at the entrance, driveway and back yard.
  • Larger property or business: 6 to 16 cameras, including warehouses, the gate and the car park. A business often adds coverage of the till or reception.

There is no point paying for cameras that watch an empty wall. That is why we start with a survey and propose where each camera makes real sense.

Where it does not pay to save

  • On camera quality. The cheapest cameras give a blurry night image where you recognize no one, exactly when you need it.
  • On recording length. If the footage is overwritten in two days, after a holiday you find nothing. We recommend at least two weeks.
  • On installation. A badly placed or unsecured camera is easy to blind or tear down. Placement matters as much as the hardware.

What is included in a turnkey system

With us you do not get just a box of hardware, but a working system:

  • a survey and design of camera placement,
  • cameras and a recorder suited to your needs,
  • installation and cabling,
  • setup of recording and remote access to your smartphone,
  • training so you can operate the system yourself.

Conclusion

The price of a camera system is not a single number, it depends on the number of cameras, quality, power method and installation. As a guide, a small home set is roughly 650 to 1600 euros turnkey, larger and business systems more. You save the most by designing the system right the first time, not by buying the cheapest cameras. We are happy to do a survey and an exact quote for free.
